Codes
The dictionary contains an important
number of statistical terms, mostly previously used by the EUSTAT
in its publications. The responsibility of this work corresponds to
the U.Z.E.I. (Unibertsitate-Zerbitzuetarako Euskal Ikastetxea), a
specialised professional office in the normalization of our language
and author of numerous dictionaries on the most varied subjects.
The statistical terms refer to a variety
of fields such as the population, industry, agriculture, education,
trade, etc.

Normalization
of codes
This attempts
to place the most common official classifications used with their
corresponding codes within the reach of the user, in order to make
it possible to easily compare statistical studies. There are codes
for countries, provinces, municipalities, zones (habitat), parentage,
education, economic activity of the company and main job or profession.
A denomination
in Basque is also proposed for the concepts of the classifications,
such as to facilitate the use of our language in responding to bilingual
questionnaires.

Nomenclatures
and codes
In order to advance along the process
of standardising classifications, nomenclatures and codes in the A.C.
of Euskadi, EUSTAT has prepared this publication, through which the
following objectives to standardise statistics will be fulfilled:
- Provide the user with the most common
official classifications used with the corresponding codes.
- Propose a basic format in order to
reach the standardisation in the use of the codes in the sphere
of the A.C. of Euskadi, which enables comparability between our
statistics and those of other Bodies or Institutions, in particular
with European Union statistics.
