SURVEY ON TOURIST ESTABLISHMENTS. Hotels. November 2022
Visitor numbers increased by 16.2% and overnight stays rose by 16.7% in hotel establishments in the Basque Country in November 2022
The room occupancy rate in the Basque Country stood at 56.8%, 3.8 percentage points higher than November 2021
In November 2022, visitor numbers at hotel establishments in the Basque Country increased by 16.2% and overnight stays rose by 16.7% in year-on-year terms, according to Eustat data. The total number of visitors, which rose to 247,036, led to a total of 457,573 overnight stays.
Foreign visitors accounted for 32.6% of the total number of visitors and 33.7% of overnight stays in November 2022, slightly higher percentages than those recorded in November 2021, when visits and overnight stays from abroad corresponded to 31.8% and 32.3% respectively. The number of visitors and overnight stays from the rest of Spain increased in year-on-year terms by 15% and 14.3% respectively.

In Álava, there were 35,688 visitors and 67,029 overnight stays, 19.8% and 12.7% more than in November the previous year. In Bizkaia, growth reached 17.4% in the case of visitors and 19.6% for overnight stays, with a total of 112,924 visitors and 208,796 overnight stays. In Gipuzkoa, 98,424 visitors were recorded during November 2022 (13.7% more than November 2021) and 181,748 overnight stays (14.9% more than a year ago).
By provincial capital, visitor numbers rose by 27.5% in Vitoria-Gasteiz, 15.4% in Bilbao and 10.7% in San Sebastián. Likewise, the increase in overnight stays compared to the previous November reached 15.1% in Bilbao, 14.3% in Vitoria-Gasteiz and 11.3% in San Sebastián.
The average length of stay in November 2022 was 1.85 days in the Basque Country as a whole, identical to that obtained in the same month of 2021.

Occupancy rates in November 2022 for the Basque Country as a whole stood at 45.2% for beds and 56.8% for rooms. Compared to November 2021, this was an increase of 3.4 and 3.8 percentage points, respectively.
Profitability, measured using the ADR or average daily rate, reached 80.18 euros in November 2022 in the Basque Country as a whole, which was a rise of 5.4% compared to the previous November. In the case of Gipuzkoa, the ADR reached 79.95 euros, in Bizkaia it was 82.02 euros and in Álava it stood at 74.90 euros. By capitals, the differences were greater, given that the ADR was 90.88 euros in San Sebastián, 89.49 euros in Bilbao and, lastly, 64.43 euros in Vitoria-Gasteiz.
The RevPar, or average revenue per available room, was 45.53 euros in the Basque Country in November 2022, 12.9% higher than in the same month of the previous year.
