SURVEY ON TOURIST ESTABLISHMENTS. Except hotels. November 2022
In November 2022, visitor numbers and overnight stays in rural accommodation in the Basque Country rose by 10.9% and 4.6%, respectively
In tourist apartments, visitor numbers increased by 37.8% and overnight stays by 15.7%
In November 2022, following year-on-year increases of 10.9% and 4.6%, visitor numbers and overnight stays in rural accommodation in the Basque Country rose to 8,500 and 18,520 respectively, according to Eustat data.
As regards origin, visitor numbers from the rest of Spain increased by 8.6%, while overnight stays decreased by 0.7%. In contrast, visitors numbers from abroad increased by 32.0% and overnight stays by 58.6%.

88.5% of visitors registered at rural accommodation in the Basque Country in November 2022 were from the rest of Spain. The 974 visitors from abroad represented 11.5% of the total. The distribution was similar for overnight stays, since 86.6% were national and the remaining 13.4% from abroad.
The year-on-year variations in the number of visitors in November 2022 varied by province. In effect, while visitor numbers fell by 1.0% in Gipuzkoa, in Álava and Bizkaia they rose by 18.9% and 27.6%, respectively. In the case of overnight stays, there was a fall of 2.9% in Gipuzkoa, but there were positive values in both Álava, up 6.7%, and Bizkaia, where the increase stood at 18.3%.
The average length of stay at this type of establishment was 2.18 days in November 2022, slightly lower than the 2.31 days observed in the same month of 2021.
Bed and room occupancy rates showed a slight year-on-year increase of 0.8 and 1.8 percentage points respectively, the bed occupancy rate standing at 14.5% and that of rooms at 18.2%.
In tourist apartments in the Basque Country visitor numbers increased by 37.8% and overnight stays by 15.7% in November 2022
As regards tourist apartments, during November 2022 visitor numbers and overnight stays totalled 8,952 and 37,857, respectively. Compared to the previous November, the year-on-year increase in visitor numbers stood at 37.8% and that of overnight stays at 15.7%.
These increases were produced both in the number of people from the rest of Spain, which rose by 36.7% in the case of visitors and 15.0% in that of overnight stays, and in those from abroad, which increased by 41.5% and 17.3% respectively.

At the provincial level, growth in both visitor numbers and overnight stays was highest in Bizkaia, with increases of 39.0% and 38.4% respectively. In Gipuzkoa, the increases were 36.5% in the case of visitor numbers and 14.6% in that of overnight stays. Finally, Álava registered a 34.0% increase in visitor numbers and a 12.3% decrease in overnight stays.
The average length of stay at this type of establishment was 4.23 days in November 2022, below the 5.04 days obtained in November 2021.
The bed occupancy rate in the Basque country as a whole was 28.2% and, that of apartments was 54.9%.

The response rate for the Survey on Tourist Establishments November 2022 was 93.2% for Rural Accommodation and 80.6% for Tourist Apartments in November 2022.
