TRADE INDEX III/2025
Sales in the Trade sector in the Basque Country rose by 2.6% in the third quarter of 2025
Compared to the previous quarter, sales increased by 1.4%
The Trade sector saw an improvement of 2.6%, in year-on-year terms, in the third quarter of 2025 at constant prices and once corrected for calendar effects, according to Eustat data. The Trade sector encompasses Wholesale trade, Retail trade and the Sale and repair of motor vehicles.
Compared to the previous quarter and once corrected for seasonal effects, sales increased by 1.4% in the third quarter of 2025.
Within Trade, the year-on-year evolution of sales was positive in the three sectors. In the Sale and repair of motor vehicles sector, sales rose by 11.5 %; in the Retail Trade sector they were up 3.8 %; and in the Wholesale Trade sector the increase was 0.5 %. All at constant prices and once corrected for calendar effects.
In relation to the previous quarter, once corrected for seasonal effects, there was a 4.3% increase in the Sale & Repair of Motor Vehicles sector, a 1.1% rise in Retail Trade and Wholesale Trade was up 0.8%.

The year-on-year performance of sales was positive in all three provinces. There were increases of 3.3% in Gipuzkoa, 2.4% in Álava and 2.2% in Bizkaia. Meanwhile, compared to the previous quarter, sales increased by 2.2% in Álava and 1.2% in both Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa.
The index of people employed in the Trade sector in the Basque Country rose by 1.5% in relation to the third quarter of 2024. Compared to the second quarter of 2025, employment rose by 0.8%.

Year-on-year variations are calculated using the series corrected for calendar effects, and the quarter-on-quarter variations are calculated using the deseasonalised series.
