LARGE STORES AND FOOD CHAINS TRADE INDEX. NOVEMBER 2024
Sales in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country rose by 1.8% in November 2024
Compared to the previous month, sales decreased by 0.6%
Sales in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country registered an increase of 1.8% in November 2024 in relation to the same month of the previous year, at constant prices and once corrected for the appropriate calendar effects, according to Eustat data.
In November, sales at constant prices and once corrected for seasonal effects were 0.6% lower than those observed the previous month.
Sales were down 0.7% in month-on-month terms in the Food sector. In the Other products sector, there was a 0.5% decrease in relation to the previous month. In year-on-year terms (November 2023 to November 2024), the evolution of sales was positive in Food, with a 2.8% increase. However, in the Other Products sector, there was a decrease of 0.2% in sales compared to the same month of the previous year.

By province, in November 2024, sales in large stores and food chains increased in year-on-year terms by 2.8% in Bizkaia, 1.1% in Álava and 0.2% in Gipuzkoa.
However, in relation to the previous month, there was a downturn in sales of 0.8% in Gipuzkoa, 0.6% in Bizkaia and 0.1% in Álava.
The number of people employed in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country increased by 1.4% in relation to November 2023. In month-on-month terms, the index recorded a rise of 0.3%.
In the cumulative period of the first eleven months of 2024, sales in the Basque County as a whole increased by 0.5%. By province, in Gipuzkoa and Álava, this rose by 0.4% and by 0.5% in Bizkaia.
In Food, cumulative sales in the year to date registered a rise of 0.8% while in Other products cumulative variation was down 0.3%.

Year-on-year variations are calculated using the series corrected for calendar effects, and month-on-month variations are calculated using the deseasonalised series.
