OTHER MARKET SERVICES INDEX. I/2024
Sales in the Market Services sector in the Basque Country rose by 2.4% in the first quarter of 2024
Compared to the previous quarter, sales increased by 1.4%
Sales in the Other Market Services sector in the Basque Country rose by 2.4% in the first quarter of 2024 in relation to the same quarter of the previous year, at constant prices and once calendar effects had been eliminated, according to Eustat data. This sector includes the services offered by the sectors of Transport, Hospitality, Information & Communications and Corporate Services Activities.
Compared to the previous quarter, at constant prices and once corrected for seasonal effects, sales increased by 1.4% in the first quarter of 2024.
Within the Other Market Services sector, the year-on-year recovery in real sales (at constant prices) was generalised. Sales rose by 3.7% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities; 2.7% in Hospitality; 2.3% in Transport and Storage; 2.1% in Information & Communications; and, finally, sales in Administrative Activities and Auxiliary Services increased by 0.2% in relation to the same quarter of the previous year.
Comparing the first quarter of 2024 with the fourth quarter of 2023, a positive performance in sales was observed in all sectors. Thus, in the Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities sector sales increased in quarter-on-quarter terms by 1.8%; in Hospitality by 1.2%; in Transport and Storage by 1.1%; and, finally, in Administrative Activities and Auxiliary Services sales were 0.3% higher than in the final quarter of 2023. The only sector that performed negatively was Information & Communications, where sales were down 0.4% in quarter-on-quarter terms.

By province, in Bizkaia there was a 3.8% year-on-year increase in the sales index, in Gipuzkoa it was up 1.0% and in Álava it rose by 0.2%. As regards the quarter-on-quarter evolution, growth was observed in all three provinces, standing at 2.4% in Gipuzkoa, 1.3% in Álava and 1.0% in Bizkaia.
The index of people employed in the Other Market Services sector in the Basque Country rose by 0.2% in the first quarter of 2024 in relation to the first quarter of 2023. With respect to the fourth quarter of the previous year, growth also stood at 0.2%.
