LARGE STORES AND FOOD CHAINS TRADE INDEX. FEBRUARY 2024
Sales at large stores and food chains in the Basque Country increased by 2.1% in February 2024
Compared to the previous month, the increase in sales was 2.3%
Sales in large store and food chains in the Basque Country registered an increase of 2.1% in February 2024 in relation to the same month of the previous year, at constant prices and in homogeneous terms of the working calendar, according to Eustat data.
In relation to January 2024, once corrected for seasonal effects, in February sales at constant prices rose by 2.3%.
In the Food sector, sales at constant prices were up 1.8% in month-on-month terms. As regards the Other Products sector, sales rose by 3.3%.
In year-on-year terms (February 2024 compared to February 2023), the evolution of sales at constant prices was positive in both Food and Other Products, both up 2.1%.

In February 2024, sales in large stores and food chains increased in year-on-year terms in all three provinces. Thus, the increase in sales, at constant prices and in homogeneous terms of the working calendar, was 4.3% in Álava, 2.4% in Gipuzkoa and 1.3% in Bizkaia.
Compared to January 2024, i.e. in month-on-month terms, sales were up 2.9% in Gipuzkoa, 2.7% in Álava and 1.9% in Bizkaia.
Lastly, the number of people employed in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country increased by 2.8% in relation to February 2023. In month-on-month terms, the index of employed people was up 0.8%.

Year-on-year variations are calculated using the series corrected for calendar effects, and month-on-month variations are calculated using the deseasonalised series.
