INDICATORS OF THE 2030 AGENDA FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT. 2021

About 71% of the target population of the Basque Country have been screened for colorectal cancer and 76% for breast cancer in 2020

Eustat continues to include new indicators to report on progress towards the goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

Eustat remains committed to continuously expanding and disaggregating the set of statistical indicators that enable the achievement of the 169 targets and 17 Sustainable Development Goals included in the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Basque Country to be quantified.

On this occasion a total of 21 new statistical indicators were included on Eustat’s platform for the dissemination of indicators of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Basque Country. These indicators were specified for the Basque Country following United Nations guidelines, due to their relevance and interest. With this new incorporation of indicators, it is possible to provide, at least partial, information on all the Sustainable Development Goals.

Among the indicators included on the Eustat platform that serve to complete United Nations goals, targets and indicators, are those of Proportion of the population covered by mass colorectal cancer screening and Proportion of the population covered by mass breast cancer screening, both of which are useful indicators of non-communicable disease prevention for reducing premature mortality.

It is observed that the population screening for colorectal cancer remains above 70% and that for breast cancer above 75% of the corresponding target populations.

Among the statistical indicators included on the Eustat platform with the aim of providing information on a United Nations indicator not reported on to date in the Basque Country, are those of Quality of river water bodies and Quality of surface water bodies. The United Nations indicator that encompasses these is that of Proportion of bodies of water with good ambient water quality.

The quality of bodies of water improved significantly in the period between 2015 and 2020, but the highest level was seen in 2018.

Following this new incorporation, there is a total of 182 statistical indicators that provide information on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals included in the 2030 Agenda for the Basque Country as a whole. A significant number of these are also disaggregated by province and/or sex, providing a more detailed and focused overview of the progress made in achieving the targets.

Eustat continues to work on including new indicators on the platform for the dissemination of indicators of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Basque Country, in order to offer both disaggregated statistical indicators already published and to include new ones that provide information on targets not covered to date. Quantitative coverage by Sustainable Development Goal is not uniform, as can be seen in the following histogram. For example, there is currently only one indicator providing information on goal 14, while there are 31 indicators for goal 3. Efforts will be made to obtain statistical indicators for the Basque Country as a whole, as well as for the provinces, for those goals with the least information.
