Activity in the Construction sector in the Basque Country grew by 3.0% in the first quarter of 2023
Civil works have increased by 8.2%, while building has done so by 2.2%
In current prices, activity in the Construction sector in the Basque Country in the first quarter of 2023 was 3.0% higher than that observed in the same quarter of the previous year, according to Eustat data.
Once corrected for calendar effects, the year-on-year increase at current prices in this quarter is explained by the positive performance of both the Civil Works sector, which experienced a rise of 8.2%, and the Building sub-sector, where growth was 2.2% compared to the first quarter of 2022.
Comparing activity of the sector in this first quarter of 2023 with that of the previous quarter (the fourth quarter of 2022), once corrected for seasonal effects, the construction index decreased by 2.5% in nominal terms or current prices. Quarter-on-quarter activity in Building fell by 2.8% and in Civil Works it was down 1.2%.

In the first quarter of 2023, following a 0.1% rise in relation to the previous quarter, the index of employed people was 0.2% below that observed in the first quarter of 2022.
