Production of the construction sector in the Basque Country rose by 4.8% in the fourth quarter of 2021

For 2021 as a whole, the sector saw a 7.2% increase in production following annual growth of 7.8% in Building and 3.6% in Civil Works

Activity in the Construction sector in the Basque Country in the fourth quarter of 2021 was 4.8% higher than the last quarter of the previous year, at current prices, according to data prepared by Eustat. In relation to the preceding quarter, in contrast, there was a decrease of 0.2% in activity once the opportune seasonal effects had been corrected.

For 2021 overall, the index that measures construction activity registered an increase of 7.2% in relation to 2020 as a whole. The average rise in activity for 2021 stood at 7.8% in Building and 3.6% in Civil Works.

The year-on-year upturn in this quarter is explained both by the behaviour of the Building sub-sector, which grew 4.9% in year-on-year terms, and that of Civil Works, up 3.9%, all at constant prices.

The drop in activity observed in relation to the third quarter of 2021 was due to the behaviour of Civil Works, down 5.5% in deseasonalised terms, given the 0.7% quarterly increase in Building activity.
