CONSTRUCTION COSTS INDEX. AUGUST 2020
Construction costs in the Basque Country fell by 0.8% in August 2020 in respect of the previous month
Compared to the previous year, August 2020 on August 2019, costs increased by 0.2%
There was a 0.8% fall in Construction Costs in the Basque Country in August 2020 compared to the previous month, whilst in year-on-year terms the index increased by 0.2%, according to EUSTAT data.
In comparison with the previous month, costs of raw materials decreased by 1.0%, whereas labour costs remained unchanged (0.0%).
In August 2020, the Building sub-sector posted a month-on-month decrease of 0.8% in the cost of raw materials and the Civil Works sub-sector a drop of 1.9%. In their year-on-year evolution, the costs of raw materials in Building remained unchanged (0.0%), whereas in Civil Works they fell by 2.0%.
The prices of raw materials consumed by sector that recorded the biggest increases in August 2020 on August 2019 included those in the following sectors: Electronic Material, up 2.5%; Electrical Material, with an increase of 1.5%; and Rubber and Plastics, which rose by 1.1%. In contrast, those sectors with reductions in prices were: Oil Refining, down 22.4%, Machinery, which fell by 3.8% and Metallurgy, with a decrease of 2.1%.
