The Construction sector in the Basque Country grew by 8.6% in the fourth quarter of 2019
The balance for 2019 closed with 7.9% growth and employment was up 3.2%
Construction activity in the Basque Country registered a year-on-year nominal upturn (current prices) of 8.6% in the fourth quarter of 2019, in homogeneous terms of the working calendar, according to EUSTAT data.
The rise in the Construction sector in this quarter was due to the positive performance of both the Building subsector, which registered a year-on-year upturn of 8.5%, and the Civil Works subsector, with an increase of 9.3%.
In quarter-on-quarter terms, if the activity of the sector in the fourth quarter of 2019 is compared to the previous quarter, once seasonal effects have been corrected, the Construction sector grew by 3.2%. The Building subsector showed an upward trend of 3.1%, while Civil Works rose by 4.7% in relation to the previous quarter.
Employment in the Construction sector saw an increase of 0.2% in the fourth quarter of 2019 compared to the third quarter of 2019.

In 2019 overall, the Construction Index posted a rise of 7.9% on the previous year, with positive performance in its two sub-sectors: Building increased by 8.3% and Civil Works rose by 4.5% compared to 2018. Regarding employment, the index of employed people registered an increase of 3.2% in 2019 as a whole.
