CONSTRUCTION COSTS INDEX. JANUARY 2020
Construction costs in the Basque Country rose 1.2% in January 2020 compared to the previous month
Compared to the previous year, January 2020 on January 2019, costs increased by 2.3%
There was a 1.2% rise in Construction Costs in the Basque Country in January 2020 compared to the previous month, whilst the year-on-year rate for the same month rose by 2.3%, according to EUSTAT data.
With regards to the previous month, labour costs increased by 1.8% and costs of raw materials were up 1.0%.
In January 2020, the Building sub-sector posted a month-on-month rise of 0.9% in the cost of raw materials and the Civil Works sub-sector an increase of 1.2%. The year-on-year performance in both these two sub-sectors was positive, since costs of raw materials in Building rose by 2.2%, and costs in Civil Works posted a 3.8% rise.
The prices of raw materials consumed by sector that recorded the biggest increases in January 2020 on January 2019, included those in the following sectors: Oil Refining, with an increase of 5.9%; Non-metallic Minerals, with a rise of 5.5%; and Electronic Material and Timber Industry, both up 2.7%. In contrast, the sectors with reductions in prices of raw materials, were: Metallurgy, with a drop of 1.4%, Chemical Industry, down 1.0% and Manufacture of Furniture, which decreased by 0.2%.
