SURVEY ON TOURIST ESTABLISHMENTS. APARTMENTS. NOVEMBER 2019
Visitor numbers to hotels, rural accommodation and tourist apartments as a whole in the Basque Country stood at 0.7% in November 2019.
Overnight stays in tourist apartments rose by 6.5%
In hotels, rural accommodation and tourist apartments as a whole, there were 243,608 visitors in November 2019, which was an increase of 0.7% on the same month of the previous year, according to data prepared by EUSTAT. 47.6% of the total number of visitors to the Basque Country was concentrated in Bizkaia, and total visitor numbers remained unchanged (0.0%). In Gipuzkoa, which accumulated 38.4% of visitors to the Basque Country, there was an increase of 2.8% and in Álava, with 14.0% of visitors, there was a fall of 2.7%.
Total overnight stays were down 2.0% in November 2019 as regards November 2018. In Bizkaia overnight stays fell by 3.5%, whereas in Alava and Gipuzkoa they did so by 0.6%.
Tourist apartments
The number of overnight stays registered in tourist apartments in the Basque Country in November 2019 stood at 21,401, which was an increase of 6.5% on those registered in November of the previous year. The number of overnight stays was up 15.1% in Bizkaia and 10.7% in Gipuzkoa, whereas there was a drop of 5.5% in Álava.
There were 5,960 visitors registered in tourist apartments in the Basque Country in November 2019, which was a rise of 24.3% compared to the same month of the previous year. Visitor numbers were up 41.7% in Gipuzkoa, 21.4% in Bizkaia and remained unchanged in Álava (0.0%).
This November the average length of stay was 3.59 days, below the average length of stay of 4.19 days registered in November 2018. In Álava there was a drop from 8.27 days last year to 7.81 days in November of this year; in Bizkaia it was down from 2.80 days to 2.66 days; and in Gipuzkoa, the average length of stay decreased from 4.09 days in November 2018 to 3.19 days in November 2019.
