Overnight stays in tourist apartments in the Basque Country increased by 2.5% in October 2019
In hotels, rural accommodation and tourist apartments as a whole, there was a 1.5% increase in overnight stays in October
Overnight stays registered in tourist apartments of the Basque Country in October 2019 stood at 26,454, up 2.5% on those registered in October 2018, according to EUSTAT data. Overnight stays rose by 15.8% in Gipuzkoa, but they were down 6.7% in Álava and 1.3% in Bizkaia.
There were 8,047 visitors registered in tourist apartments in the Basque Country in October 2019, which was a rise of 19.1% compared to the same month of the previous year. Visitor numbers were up 58.7% in Gipuzkoa, 6.9% in Bizkaia and were down 11.4% in Álava.
This October the average length of stay was 3.29 days, below the average length of stay of 3.82 days registered in October 2018. In Álava there was an increase from 7.20 days last year to 7.59 days in October of this year; in Bizkaia it was down from 2.76 days to 2.55 days; and in Gipuzkoa, the average length of stay decreased from 4.15 days in October 2018 to 3.02 days in October 2019.
Tourist balance for October 2019
In hotels, rural accommodation and apartments as a whole, there were 319,561 visitors in October 2019, which was an increase of 5.7% compared to the same month of the previous year. 46.7% of the total number of visitors to the Basque Country was concentrated in Bizkaia, and total visitor numbers rose by 3.1%. In Gipuzkoa, which accumulated 40.3% of visitors to the Basque Country, there was an increase of 11.2% and in Álava; with 13.0% of visitors; there was a fall of 0.1%.
Overnight stays in the total number of tourist establishments were up 1.5%. In Gipuzkoa overnight stays increased by 6.3%, but in Álava and Bizkaia they decreased by 5.2% and 0.6% respectively.
