Overnight stays in tourist apartments in the Basque Country increased by 9.1% in June 2019
In hotels, rural accommodation and tourist apartments as a whole, there was a 5.5% increase in overnight stays in June
Overnight stays registered in tourist apartments of the Basque Country in June 2019 stood at 29,374, up 9.1% on those registered in June 2018, according to EUSTAT data.
Overnight stays rose by 19.7% in Gipuzkoa and by 6.7% in Bizkaia, but were down 0.6% in Álava.
There were 9,346 visitors registered in tourist apartments in the Basque Country in June 2019, which was a rise of 11.0%. The number of visitors was up 18.8% in Bizkaia and 12.6% in Gipuzkoa whereas in Álava there was a drop of 16.4%.
This June the average length of stay was 3.14 days, below the average length of stay of 3.20 days registered in June 2018. In Álava there was an increase from 5.74 days last year to 6.82 days in June of this year; in Bizkaia it was down from 2.77 days to 2.48 days; and in Gipuzkoa, the average length of stay increased from 2.71 days in June 2018 to 2.89 days in June 2019.
Tourist balance for June 2019: visitor numbers rose by 4.1%, led by Gipuzkoa with an increase of 10.2%
In hotels, rural accommodation and apartments as a whole, there were 323,628 visitors in June 2019, which was an increase of 4.1% compared to the same month of the previous year. 45.0% of the total number of visitors to the Basque Country was concentrated in Bizkaia, and total visitor numbers rose by 1.3%. In Gipuzkoa, which accumulated 41.9% of visitors to the Basque Country, there was an increase of 10.2% and in Álava, with 13.1% of visitors, there was a fall of 3.5%.
Overnight stays in the total number of tourist establishments were up 5.5%. They increased by 10.8% in Gipuzkoa, 2.9% in Bizkaia and fell 1.8% in Álava.
