If we analyse the distribution of employed individuals and the generation of added value at factor cost according to the different activities groups within construction, then it is worth mentioning that the activities Electrical Installations, Plumbing and Other Installations made up nearly a third (30%) of the total number of people employed in construction, and they generated 26% added value. The next activity to employ the most individuals within construction was Finishing Works, which took in 23% of total employed, generating a value of 14%. In third place was Building Construction, with 19% of total employed, and 24% added value. It is also worth highlighting the productivity of the activity Property Development, which contributed 15% added value and employed 6% of the total number of individuals working in construction.

If we take into account the final use of the built property, the distribution of sales between construction (along with development) and civil engineering has not varied significantly over the last few years. Hence, in 2014, construction (58%) together with property development (18%) accounted for 76% of total sales, which is equal to the 2013 proportion and just one percentage point beneath the proportions for 2012 and 2011. We do, however, see a significant change in the distribution of activity between renovation and new construction, particularly in Construction, where we see a clear increase in the former to the detriment of the latter. In 2014, building renovation accounted for 28% of total sales in the construction sector in the Basque Country, which is 6 percentage points more than two years previously. At the same time, new construction fell 5 percentage points in two years, i.e. from 35% in 2012 to 30% in 2014. New civil engineering works accounted for 13% of sales in the sector in 2014, two percentage points fewer than in 2012.
