Industrial prices in the Basque Country decreased by 0.4% in August 2015 with regards to the previous month
They were 2.8% down on the previous year (August 2015 on August 2014)
Industrial prices in the Basque Country decreased by 0.4% in August 2015 with regards to the previous month, according to EUSTAT data. With these data, the year-on-year rate for August, which indicates the fluctuation in industrial prices over the last twelve months, registered a drop of 2.8%.
A more detailed analysis by sector reveals that in August 2015 the most inflationary branches compared to the previous month were Electricity, Gas & Steam with a rise of 4.0%, and Textile, Leather & Footwear with a rise of 1.0%. On the other hand, the greatest decreases were seen in the sectors of Coke Plants & Oil Refining, which dropped by 8.9%, and Chemical Industry, which was down by 1.0%.
In the year-on-year period, August 2015 on August 2014, the highest price increases took place in the branches of Electricity, Gas & Steam, which saw an increase of 4.1% and Manufacture of Transport Material together with Manufacture of Pharmaceutical Products, whose prices both rose by 1.3%. Conversely, there were decreases in prices corresponding to the sectors of, among others, Coke Plants & Oil Refining, which fell by 25.5%, and Chemical Industry, which decreased by 2.4%.
With regards to the classification of goods by economic destination, the price variation in August over the previous month of the large sectorial groups was negative for Energy, whose prices dropped by 2.5%, and for Capital Goods which fell by 0.1%. Intermediate Goods saw no change (0.0%) and neither did Consumer Goods as a whole (0.0%), as a result of the slight increase in the prices of Consumer Durables, which rose 0.1%, and of the fact that the prices of Consumer Non-Durables remained stable (0.0%).
The price variation of these large groups of goods was negative in all cases over the year-on-year period, with the exception of Capital Goods, which were up 0.3%. Energy fell by 12.9%, Intermediate Goods were down by 1.0% and Consumer Goods as a whole fell by 0.2%. Amongst the latter, the prices of Consumer Non-Durables dropped by 0.3%, whilst Consumer Durables were up by 0.1%.
