INDUSTRIAL PRICE INDEX OF THE BASQUE COUNTRY (IPRI) DECEMBER 2013
Industrial prices in the Basque Country increased by 0.7 % in December 2013 with regards to the previous month
They were 0.6% up on the previous year (December 2013 on December 2012)
Industrial prices in the Basque Country increased by 0.7% in December 2013 compared to the previous month, according to data provided by EUSTAT. With these data, the year-on-year rate for December, which indicates the fluctuation in industrial prices over the last twelve months, registered a rise of 0.6%.
A more detailed analysis by sector reveals that in December 2013 the branches up on last month were Electricity, Gas and Steam with an increase of 3.8% and Furniture and Other Manufacturing Industries, together with Food Beverages and Tobacco both increased by 0.8%. On the other hand, the largest price decreases were in the sectors of Textile, Garments, Leather and Footwear (-0.3%), and Extraction Industries and Manufacture of Pharmaceutical Products, both with a drop of 0.2%.
In the year-on-year period, from December 2012 to December 2013, the greatest increase in prices occurred within the branches of Electricity, Gas and Steam with an increase of 6.0%, Plastic and Rubber, up by 5.3% and Manufacture of Machinery and Equipment, where prices rose by 2.1%. Conversely, there were decreases in prices corresponding to the sectors of, among others, Metallurgy and Metal Products, down by 2.7%, Manufacture of Electrical Material and Equipment, which decreased by 2.0%, and Food, Beverages and Tobacco, which dropped 1.7%.
According to the classification of Goods by economic destination, the evolution of prices in December for the large sector groups were all positive except for Equipment Goods, with no change (0.0%). Energy registered an increase in prices of 2.4%, as did Intermediate Goods, which rose 0.2%. Consumer Goods as a whole were up 0.5%, as a result of the rise in the prices of Consumer Durables (0.1%), and Consumer Non-durables (0.6%).
The variation in prices for these large goods groups in the year-on-year period was different for each one. Energy increased by 3.4%, as did Equipment Goods, which registered an increase of 0.7%. Prices corresponding to Intermediate Goods were down by 0.9%, and those for Consumer Goods as a whole witnessed a fall of 0.5%. Amongst the latter, the prices of Consumer Non-Durables dropped by 0.7%, whilst Consumer Durables were up 0.1%.
