Industrial prices fell by 0.8% in October 2012 with regards to the previous month
They were 1.2% up on the previous year (October 2012 on October 2011)
Industrial prices in the Basque Country fell by 0.8% in October 2012 compared to the previous month, according to EUSTAT data. With these data, the year-on-year rate for October, which indicates the fluctuation in industrial prices over the last twelve months, showed growth to be 1.2%.
A more detailed sectorial analysis reveals that in October 2012 the most inflationary branches compared to the previous month were “Plastics & Rubber” (0.5%) and “Manufacture of Electrical Material” (0.1%). All other sectors experienced downturns in their prices, with the most important being “Electricity, Gas & Steam” (-3.9 %), “Coke Plants and Oil Refining” (-2.3%), “Food Industry” (-1.0%) and “Extraction Industries” (- 0.8%).
During the year-on-year period, October 2012 on October 2011, the highest price rises were recorded by “Coke Plants & Oil Refining", with a rise of 8.9%, “Electricity, Gas & Steam” with an increase of 6.2%, and “Manufacture of Computer & Electronic Products”, which grew 5.1%. On the other hand, greater downturns were recorded in the prices corresponding to "Manufacture of Transport Material" (-3.2%) "Metallurgy & Metal Products" (-1.9%).and "Extraction Industries" (-1.1%).
According to the classification of goods by economic destination, the evolution of prices in the large sectorial groups in October compared to the previous month was varied: the price of Energy experienced a fall of 3.0%, prices of both Intermediate Goods and Equipment Goods were down by 0.2%, whilst there was no change in Consumer Goods as a whole, with prices of Consumer Non-Durables dropping by 0.1% and those of Consumer Durables remaining unchanged.
The price evolution of these large goods groups varied over the year-on-year period. Prices corresponding to Energy rose by 7.7% and those relating to Equipment Goods were up by 0.1%, whilst those of Intermediate Goods fell by 0.6%. The prices of Consumer Goods as a whole were also down by 0.6%. Amongst the latter, the prices of Consumer Durables rose by 0.3%, whilst Consumer Non-Durables were down by 1.0%.
