Industrial prices fell by 0.2% in April 2012 on the previous month
They were 2.4% up on the previous year (April 2012 on April 2011)
Industrial prices in the Basque Country fell by 0.2% in April 2012 compared to the previous month, according to EUSTAT data. The year-on-year rate for April, which indicates the fluctuation in industrial prices over the last twelve months, showed growth to be 2.4%.
A more detailed sectorial analysis reveals that in April 2012 the most inflationary branches, compared to the previous month, were “Manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products” (1.7%), “Chemical Industry” (0.7%), “Manufacture of Electrical Material and Equipment” (0.4%) and “Manufacture of Rubber, Plastic and other Non-Metal Products” (0.4%), amongst others. On the other hand, the sectors with the greatest falls in prices were “Extraction Industries" (-1.2%), “Coke Plants & Oil Refining” (-1.1%) and “Timber, Paper & Graphic Arts” (-0.5%).
During the year-on-year period, April 2012 on April 2011, the highest price rises were recorded by “Electricity, Gas & Steam" (11.8%) “Coke Plants & Oil Refining” (8.1%), and “Chemical Industry” (4.4%). On the other hand, prices fell in "Metallurgy & Metal Products" (-1.6%) and "Pharmaceutical Products" (-0.5%).
According to the classification of goods by economic destination, the evolution of prices in the large sectorial groups varied in April: the price of Energy fell by 0.7%, Intermediary Goods were down by 0.1%, Equipment Goods rose by 0.1% and there was no appreciable change in the prices of Consumer Goods overall (0.0%), with prices of Consumer Non-Durables remaining unchanged (0.0%) and those of Consumer Durables rising slightly (0.2%).
The price evolution of these large groups of goods increased in all cases over the year-on-year period, with the exception of Intermediate Goods, which were down 0.3%. Prices relating to Energy rose by 9.6%, those of Equipment Goods did so by 1.6% and those for Consumer Goods were up by 1.6%. Amongst the latter, the prices of Consumer Non-Durables rose by 1.9% whilst Consumer Durables were up by 0.8%.
