The year-on-year rate of export unit prices rose by 6.2% in the fourth quarter of 2010
In the case of imports, there was a greater rise in prices (13.5%)
In the fourth quarter of 2010, the unit prices of both exports and imports of the Basque Country, measured as Unit Value Indices and year-on-year rates, rose according to Eustat data. This increase was greater in the case of imports (13.5%) than for exports (6.2%).
If this fourth quarter is compared to the previous one, the rise in the unit prices of imports (3.3%) was also more marked than for exports (0.8%).
If we consider the Classification by Economic Destination, the rise in the year-on-year rate of the export price of the Basque Country was the same for Consumer Goods and for Intermediate Goods, with both cases posting an increase of 10.8%. However, Capital Goods registered a downturn of 13.7%.
The year-on-year rates of the import price of the Basque Country also showed a decrease for Capital Goods, which was 3.0% in this case. The other two types of goods posted increases in their rates, with the highest registered by Intermediate Goods, up 16.2%, compared to 3.6% in the case of Consumer Goods.
If we examine the geographical areas to which our goods are exported, the export unit prices for this fourth quarter compared to the same quarter of last year were higher in all areas. Exports to Other Countries rose by 2.8%, to the Euro Zone by 5.2% and to the EU-27 by 6.1%. The price rise was higher in the case of exports to the OECD (7.2%). In the case of imports, the price rise was greater, particularly in the rates to the OECD (8.4%) and to Other Countries (21.3%).
With respect to the previous quarter, the export rates were likewise positive in all geographical areas, except for the price drop with Other Countries. The other prices ranged between rise of 1.2% for the EU-27 and 1.5% for the Euro Zone.
In the case of imports, the increases in the unit value index rates were wide-spread and higher than for exports. In this case, the highest rates were in the OECD area (3.4%) and Other Countries (3.8%). The Euro Zone and EU-27 registered more moderate increases of 2.1% and 2.8%, respectively.
