Industrial activity in the A.C. of the Basque Country fell by 26.5% in May 2009
With regard to the previous month, April 2009, it registered a 3.3% decrease
Industrial production in the Basque Country fell by 26.5% in May 2009 as regards the same month of 2008, in homogenous terms of the working calendar, according to Eustat data.
Compared to the previous month, April 2009, industrial production in the Basque Country fell by 3.3%, once seasonal effects had been corrected.

Sector evolution
By sectors, using the classification of the major industrial sectors, inter-annual evolution of the May 2009 index, compared to that of May 2008, showed decreases across the board. Intermediate Goods fell by 32.0%, Capital Goods decreased by 31.4%, Energy fell by 7.7% and Consumer Goods decreased by 12.6%, as a result of the decrease suffered by Consumer Non-Durable Goods (-9.0%) and, especially, the fall of Consumer Durable Goods (-21.8%).
Inter-monthly variations for May 2009, in relation to April 2009, were negative for all sectors, except for Consumer Goods which rose by 0.7%, as a result of the rise experienced by Consumer Non-Durable Goods, which increased by 1.0%, while Consumer Durable Goods decreased by 0.2%. Energy fell by 5.7%, Capital Goods by 5.6%, while Intermediate Goods decreased by 3.2%.
Evolution by province
By province, inter-annual evolution of the Industrial Production Index followed a negative pattern in all three provinces. In Álava it fell by 32.6%, in Bizkaia by 24.2% and in Gipuzkoa it decreased by 25.5%.
The inter-monthly rates, May 2009 in relation to April 2009, of the three provinces showed negative values: that of Álava showed a 1.9% decrease, that of Bizkaia fell by 4.8% and that of Gipuzkoa decreased by 2.1%.
