Gaining knowledge of and quantifying the population in relation to activity, occupation and unemployment of residents of the Basque Country requires various statistical sources. Firstly, the Population and housing census. Activity provides detailed annual data on a municipal level. Specifically, information is published on the employed, unemployed and inactive population and its distribution with regard to the characteristics specific to the labour market, such as the economic activity sector, and to socio-demographic variables, such as gender, age or level of education. Secondly, the Population and Housing Censuses supplement this information on a five-yearly basis, exploring in-depth other aspects related to activity such as professional situation and mobility in the workplace. These statistics are essentially based on processing and use of mostly administrative sources.
