SURVEY ON TOURIST ESTABLISHMENTS (EETR) JUNE 2005



Number of visitors increased by 2% in June 2005



Overnight stays increased by 5% in the same monthly period.



According to Eustat data 163,004 visitors registered in hotels in the A.C. of Euskadi in June 2005, almost 4,000 more than in the same month last year, representing an increase of 2%. The number of visitors in comparison to the same month last year increased in Bizkaia (8%) and Gipuzkoa (1%), but not in Alava, where it fell by 8%.


The entry of visitors from within the Spanish State in June 2005 grew by 5%, increasing by 8% in Gipuzkoa and 7% in Bizkaia, but falling by 6% in Alava. The number of foreign visitors fell by 2% in the A.C. of Euskadi, dropping in the provinces of Alava (-13%) and Gipuzkoa (-9%), but increasing in Bizkaia (11%).


Among visitors from the Spanish state there was an increase mainly in those coming from the Communities of Madrid, Catalonia, Galicia, Andalusia and Aragon. Those coming from Asturias and Castille la Mancha among others fell in number. Among foreign visitors, the numbers from Belgium, Italy and Holland increased the most. The number of visitors coming from Germany, France, Portugal, United Kingdom and Canada and the USA, among others, all fell.


The number of overnight stays in June 2005 rose to 307,485, representing an increase of 5% on June last year, that is more than 15,000 more overnight stays. In Gipuzkoa (11%) and Alava (5%), the number of overnight stays increased while in Bizkaia (0%) they remained at the same level as the previous year.


The average length of stay increased by 3% in the A.C. of Euskadi. This figure increased significantly in Alava (14%), increasing from 1.62 days last year to 1.84 days this last June. This statistic also increased in Gipuzkoa (9%), extending from 1.82 days last year to 1.99 in June of this year, but fell in Bizkaia (-8%), from 1.95 days to 1.79.

Total occupancy levels registered an increase of 2% in the whole of the A.C. of Euskadi, but room occupancy levels fell by one point. Both indexes reflected negative growth in Bizkaia.


First semester balance in hotels in 2005: both the number of visitors and the number of overnight stays increased in comparison to the first semester of 2004


The balance of the first semester of 2005 in hotels in the A.C. of Euskadi reflected increases on the same period last year in both in the number of visitors (4%) and the number of overnight stays (5%).


In the first semester of 2005, 1,497,118 overnight stays were registered, that is, 60,000 more than the previous year. This increase in overnight stays was reflected in all three provinces, with an increase of 4% in Alava and Bizkaia and a 5% increase in the province of Gipuzkoa.


The number of visitors registered in the first semester of 2005 increased to 820,369, that is, 29,000 more than the same period last year. The number of visitors increased in Bizkaia (8%) and Gipuzkoa (2%), but fell in Alava (-4%).


The figure for the average length of stay improved, increasing from 1.81 days in the first semester of 2004 to 1.82 days in the first six months of this year, rising in Alava and Gipuzkoa, but not in Bizkaia where it fell by 3 percentage points.


Occupancy levels increased from 41.52% last year to 42.04% during the first semester of 2005, improving in both Alava and Gipuzkoa, but not in Bizkaia, where they fell from 41.84% to 40.69%.







Farm tourism or Agrotourism: Visitors increase (2%) as well as overnight stays (2%)


8,628 visitors were registered in Farm Tourism establishments in the A.C. of Euskadi in June, 2% more than the same month last year, a rise of 21% in Alava, 1% in Gipuzkoa, but a fall of 8% in Bizkaia. The number of visitors from the Spanish State increased by 3% and visits to Euskadi from abroad fell by 12%.


There were 18,965 overnight stays registered in Farm tourism establishments in the A.C. of Euskadi in June, representing an increase of 2% on the same month last year, reflecting inter-annual growth of 9% in Gipuzkoa and 3% in Alava. On the other hand, in Bizkaia the inter-annual comparison revealed a fall of 7% in the number of overnight stays in this subsector.


The average length of stay for visitors registered a slight increase of 1% in the A.C. of Euskadi as a whole on the figure for June 2004, extending from 2.18 days a year ago to 2.20 this June, this inter-annual increase was only present in the provinces of Gipuzkoa and Bizkaia.


Occupancy levels fell by 4% and the level of room occupation underwent a fall of 3% in the A.C. of Euskadi when considered as a whole. The fall in both indexes was only registered in Bizkaia, where these two statistics decreased by 14% and 17%, respectively.


Farm Tourism first semester balance in 2005: Visitors increase by 4% and overnight stays by 1%


During the first semester of 2005 there were 40,320 visitors registered in Farm Tourism establishments in the A.C. of Euskadi, representing an increase of 4% on the same period of last year.


The number of overnight stays registered were 92,727, that is to say, 1% more than the first semester of 2004.


The average length of stay fell from 2.38 days during the first semester of 2004 to 2.30 days during the first semester of this year, the overall fall stemming from the changes in Bizkaia (-11%) and Alava (-5%).


The level of occupancy fell from 21.01% during the first semester of last year to 19.93% during the same period of this year. And this fall in occupancy is reflected in all three provinces in the A.C. of Euskadi.
