GOOGLE, and at some distance YAHOO, dominate the number of visits to search engines and portals, according to the Survey on the Information Society –Families, corresponding to the 2nd quarter of 2003, carried out by the Eustat. The former is the most popular with Internet users, with 449,500 mentions. The second most popular, YAHOO, stands at some distance in mentions (130,000).

Except for the aforementioned GOOGLE, Wanadoo and Excite, the rest of the portals are named less and less by Internet users.

Digital press continues in the leading positions in the ranking of mentions.

As has occurred over the last three years, the leading positions in the ranking of websites continue to be held by digital newspapers. Internet users aged 15 and over mention them most often, followed by institutional websites and close behind by financial institutions. Press websites are increasingly mentioned, this time with 29,800 more mentions than the previous quarter. Newspaper websites thus receive a total of 221,200 mentions.

Although El CORREODIGITAL.COM continues to be the most mentioned site, the two highest increases in mentions for this type of website corresponded to DIARIOVASCO.COM (12,500 mentions more) and ELMUNDO.ES (7,900 more).

The pages of Banks, Savings Banks and other financial agencies are shown less than the previous quarter. The exception is the website BBK.ES, which overtakes CAJALABORAL.ES in the ranking. However, none of these Websites reaches 20,000 mentions.

The most outstanding in this classification is the increase, already started the previous quarter, in mentions for the the University of the Basque Country web page (EHU.ES).
