In February 2002, the most positive inter-annual variations corresponded to the sectors: "Food industry" (15.3%), "Metal and non-metal minerals" (10.2%), "Other manufactured" (8.6%), "Transport material" (5.3%) and "Electric energy, gas and water" (5.1%).
The sectors that had the most negative inter-annual growth rates were "Oil refining" (-22.2%), "Textiles and clothing" (-11.1%), "Leather and footwear industry" (-4.0%) and "Metallurgy and metal articles" (-3.5%).
By the economic destination of the goods, in February 2002 the rates rose for Consumer Goods (2.0%) and Capital Goods (0.4%), but fell for Intermediate Goods (-1.2%).
The performance of the General Industrial Production Index was different in the three Provinces. On the one hand, there was substantial growth of 2.1% and 1.7% in the provinces of Gipuzkoa and Alava, and on the other, there was a 0.9% fall in Bizkaia, partly as a result of the fall in the oil refining sector in the latter Province.
