Area of Economic Activity
An economic area is a consolidated urban space developed for the establishment of various economic activities, and it constitutes a perfectly planned and delimited area, subject to by-laws with non-residential spaces, urban planning and infrastructure in accordance with the requirements stipulated in the urban laws in place and the corresponding regulations(1).
A closed polygonal line or area is formed on the land in question, the boundaries of which are at a distance of at least 200 metres away from other areas, and it contains at least three active establishments.
The definition does not, however, specify the number of access points or buildings. One building housing the establishments is sufficient.
One area can cover terrain in more than one municipality or province. For our purposes, however, the provincial boundaries of the Basque Country shall be the outermost boundary of an area.
The interior of an area may contain farming or forestry land, residential buildings, transport links and car parks, and it may also be traversed by motorways, bridges, pipelines or high-voltage power lines. In each instance, however, the infrastructure in question must cover a minimum area in relation to the area dedicated to business activity.
