Level of education attained according to the CNED-A classification into 3 groups

The following levels are defined:

  • First stage of secondary education or lower: Illiterate individuals; Incomplete primary education; Primary education; First stage of secondary education without a certificate of completion of compulsory secondary education, and similar; First stage of secondary education with a certificate of completion of compulsory secondary education, and equivalent; Level 1 and 2 vocational certificates and similar.

  • Second stage of secondary education and post-secondary non-higher education: Bachillerato post-16 education and equivalent; Intermediate level vocational training, visual arts and design and sports education and similar; Professional music and dance training and similar; B2, C1 and C2 level certificates from official language schools, and similar; Basic vocational training; Level 3 vocational certificates; Short-term programmes that require completion of the second stage of secondary education, and similar.

  • Higher education: Advanced level vocational training, visual arts and design and sports education and equivalent; University qualifications that require a certificate of completion of upper secondary education, lasting 2 years or more; University degrees of up to 240 ECTS credits and equivalent; University diplomatura degrees (usually lasting 3 years) and equivalent; Expert or specialist university qualifications of at least 60 ECTS credits, admission to which requires a university degree; University degrees of more than 240 ECTS credits and equivalent; University licenciatura degrees (usually lasting 5 years) and equivalent; Official university master’s degrees and equivalent; Specialisations in Health Sciences by the residency system, and similar; University master’s qualifications of 60 or more ECTS credits, admission to which requires a university degree; University doctorate.
