The trend series includes the long-term, or low frequency, movements whose period is greater than 32 quarters (8 years). The cyclic component includes the oscillations whose duration is between 2 and 8 years. Given the difficulty to discriminate between cyclic and trend oscillations, a mixed cycle and trend component is usually used.
