Methodological note. EIS: International scientific co-publications per million population

International scientific co-publications are a proxy for the quality of scientific research as collaboration increases scientific productivity.

The indicator is obtained as a quotient.

Numerator:

Number of scientific publications with at least one co-author based abroad. (where abroad is non-EU for the EU28).

Denominator:

Total population.
