Objectives
Most important objectives of the operation:
- To carry out research into the habits, consumer behaviour and attitudes of households in relation to the environment.
- To study the facilities of dwellings and the use made of them in relation to different environmental aspects, with the aim of enabling household-related environmental policies to be created (energy saving, reduction of energy consumption, waste separation, etc.). The study also enables indicators to be obtained which are comparable between Autonomous Communities.
- To achieve comparability with other countries that have carried out studies of this type.

Sample design
It consists of a two-stage sample stratified by area.
The theoretical sample is 5,000 families. From this sampling size allocations are made by Provinces and areas in the usual manner, according to the criteria of the number of occupied dwellings in the sampling frame.
As the structure of main and substitute dwellings was not followed, the number of dwellings to be surveyed was increased to 7,000 units. This total sample is to be distributed across the strata according to the distribution of the theoretical sample and also to the eligibility and response rates of the areas.
Furthermore, in 2015 the sample is balanced on characteristics of its members in the Provinces and on the number of individuals in the areas, as in other operations of this type. This has already been put into practice in other operations (ECS2012, EPT2013 or ECV2014 as regards Eustat social-demographic operations). This year, and for the first time in this operation, the year of construction of the dwelling will be added as a balancing variable.
Regarding the second stage, random sampling is performed among the residents of the dwelling, using the Kish grid method. Once a list of residents in the dwelling is made in the field, it is essential that they be ordered by age and sex so as to apply the selection corresponding to the number of residents.
