Technological Readiness Indicator (TRI)
The technological readiness indicator of companies was developed by analysing their websites.
This indicator reflects the technological readiness level of company websites based on various components obtained through different specialised tools.
Below, we define the indicator and detail its key components, which allow for a comprehensive assessment of technological readiness. These components include factors such as the stability and reliability of the technologies used, the scalability and performance of platforms, compatibility with other technological tools, security and compliance with regulations, and the capacity for continuous updating and innovation.
The components used to obtain the technological readiness indicator are obtained from the use of Python’s BuiltWith library, together with the analysis carried out using Chrome's Lighthouse extension.
The programme was developed exclusively in Python, and generative artificial intelligence tools are used to assess the platforms being studied. The platforms evaluated are variable, as over time some emerge while others disappear, so it is essential to carry out dynamic and ongoing assessments of their readiness. Therefore, generative AI is used as a key tool for adapting the analysis to this ever-changing environment.
Indicator formula
IMT = (R * 0.35) + (OA * 0.3) + (PWA * 0.2) + (CIOP * 0.15)
Below is a detailed explanation of the variables that make up the Technological Readiness Indicator.
Correlation of Variables
The correlation between the different variables that make up the indicator was studied. The low correlation found between them means that they are all included in the construction of the indicator.
See Correlation of Variables graphs.

This indicator was applied to the companies comprising the sample from the Survey on the Information Society in Companies (ESIE). This graph shows the distribution of companies according to their technological readiness level in 2023.
See technological readiness distribution graph.

The technological readiness indicator can be calculated for any company that has a website. Thus, any entity interested in finding out their technological level in comparison with other companies in the Basque Country can obtain an accurate assessment of its position. It could also identify which technological readiness group it belongs to.
