The operationDirectory of Economic Activities (DIRAE) collects information from all the establishments that carry out Economic activities in the Basque Country; provides basic structural information on the sectors of economic activity and serves as a framework of reference for the implementation of sector censuses and surveys; it also allows the analysis of the population employed in the establishments of the community. DIRAE serves as the basis for The Statistics regarding company start-ups and closures and Equipment and services inventory. The first seeks to quantify the number of companies and establishments that are created and closed over time, according to the different economic sectors, territorial spheres and other characteristics of those units, and the legal entity or its size. The second offers, via the LurData service, statistical information on the provision of hospitality and catering, commercial, educational, cultural, social and healthcare services, with a great deal of provincial detail. Its unique feature is that the user can decide which geographical area they would like to find out about. This method of disseminating statistical data is underpinned by the Basque Government Geographical Information System, called GeoEuskadi.
