Large store and food chain sales in the Basque Country increased by 1.8% in November 2025


Compared to the previous month, sales increased by 0.8%


Sales in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country saw an increase of 1.8% during November 2025 in relation to the same month of the previous year, at constant prices and once corrected for the calendar effects, according to Eustat data.


Compared to the previous month (October 2025), sales at constant prices, once corrected for seasonal effects, rose by 0.8%.




The year-on-year evolution of sales compared to November 2024 was positive in both the Other Products sector, and in that of Food, with an increase of 4.8% and 0.3% respectively.


In month-on-month terms (November 2025 compared to October 2025), there was a positive trend in the Other Products sector, with an increase of 2.5%. However, in the Food sector, a decrease of 0.1% was observed.

In November 2025, sales in large stores and food chains increased in year-on-year terms by 2.4% in Bizkaia, by 1.5 % in Gipuzkoa and by 0.4% in Álava.

In month-on-month terms, sales rose by 1.0% in Bizkaia, 0.6% in Gipuzkoa and 0.3% in Álava.

In the cumulative period of the first eleven months of the year for the Basque Country as a whole, sales in large stores and food chains increased by 0.7% compared to the same cumulative period of the previous year, reaching 1.3% in the case of Bizkaia. In Gipuzkoa, in the cumulative period until November, there was a 0.1% increase, however in Álava, there was a 0.2% decrease.

Lastly, the number of people employed in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country fell by 0.4% in comparison with November 2024. In month-on-month terms, the index recorded a rise of 0.2%. Meanwhile in the cumulative period until November, it increased by 1.3%.

Year-on-year variations are calculated using the series corrected for calendar effects, and month-on-month variations are calculated using the deseasonalised series.
