Eustat updates its Educational Website with the launch of a space for creating and sharing knowledge

Eustat has undertaken the updating of its educational website with the aim of offering new and attractive activities which allow for the spreading of statistical knowledge among the educational world. The project, which began in 2006, involves the use of new technologies. Not only has the aesthetic appearance changed with the updating of the educational website, the previous content has also been recovered and, above all, a new space for developing and sharing knowledge has been created.

This space for creation invites individual users to be the protagonists of the website's content. Those individuals, especially teachers, who wish to do so can register in the content development system.

They will then be able to create educational units with their corresponding tasks. After being reviewed and validated, they are made available to the public so that anyone who creates an educational unit will share this content openly. As a result, the benefit of the creation will impact all of the individual users of the educational website.

Plus, it will no longer always be necessary to download the tasks. The new educational units will be composed of tasks integrated into the website and can be completed interactively.

For the future, new content will be added that allows for increasing the degree of interactivity.

The development and updating of this Eustat product is aligned with the European vision of the statistical system. The European strategies thus demonstrate the need to act to improve the statistical skills of the general population.

Structure of the educational website

As an overview, the basic structure of the educational website developed by Eustat is described below:

· Homepage (Ikasgela): This is where students, as well as teachers and parents, will find the material for carrying out the different activities. The main content consists of the educational units and their associated tasks. Additional materials are also available, accessible from their corresponding sections.

· Educational units: This module is used to access and download information from different educational units, each containing around 10 tasks each.

· Tasks: The tasks make up the educational units but can be used independently. There are two types of tasks: downloadable and on-line tasks, which can be completed directly on the website. A complete information sheet is available in all cases: length of time, topics, difficulty, skills, resources and description.

· Webquest: Guided and organised activities are proposed based on a topic to study and develop. The activity is focused on research in which the information used by students is mostly downloaded from the Internet.

· Spreadsheets: This module is used to complete a series of statistical tasks and problems through the use of a spreadsheet.

· Games: This activity ensures entertainment while learning by playing. Specifically, the dice game is a simulation with the objective of demonstrating how the Law of Large Numbers works.

· Are you going to create content?: This section allows for collaboration in the creation of educational content that can be shared by all individual users of the educational website.
