GDP and employment in the Basque Country. Advance accounts for the fourth quarter and 2025 as a whole

Highlights

Annual evolution of GDP: In 2025, the Gross Domestic Product of the Basque Country grew by 2.3% compared to the previous year.

Annual evolution of Employment: In 2025, employment in the Basque Country was up 1.4% compared to the previous year.

Quarterly evolution of GDP: In the fourth quarter of 2025, the Gross Domestic Product of the Basque Country increased by 2.4% in relation to the same quarter of the previous year and by 0.5% in relation to the previous quarter.

Quarterly evolution of Employment: In the fourth quarter of 2025, employment in the Basque Country rose by 1.4% compared to the same quarter of the previous year and by 0.4% compared to the previous quarter.

Statistical analysis

In 2025, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the Basque Country rose by 2.3% in relation to 2024, according to estimates for the Advance Quarterly Economic Accounts made by Eustat. Employment, measured as full-time equivalent jobs, increased by 1.4% over the year, which meant the creation of around 14,000 jobs.

An analysis of the relevant information available at the time these Advance Accounts were prepared reveals that in 2025, value added grew at a slower rate than the previous year due to the deceleration observed in the primary sector and industry.

As regards the fourth quarter of 2025, following a 0.5% rise in GDP in relation to the previous quarter, the increase in respect of the same quarter of the previous year was estimated at 2.4%.

Employment, measured as full-time equivalent jobs, was up 0.4% in the last quarter of 2025 compared to the previous quarter. In relation to the same quarter of the previous year, estimated growth stood at 1.4%.

On 6 March Eustat will publish the disaggregated estimates of GDP and employment in its Quarterly Economic Accounts for the fourth quarter of 2025, after incorporating the relevant economic information that was not available when these Advance Accounts were prepared.
