Sales in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country rose by 0.4% in July 2025


Compared to the previous month, sales were up 0.2%


Sales in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country rose by 0.4% compared to the same month of the previous year, at constant prices once corrected for calendar effects. Compared to the previous month (June 2025), sales at constant prices, and once corrected for seasonal effects, were up 0.2%.




In year-on-year terms (July 2025 compared to July 2024), the evolution of sales was positive in the sectors of both Food, with a 0.2% increase and Other Products, up 0.6%.

In month-on-month terms (July 2025 compared to June 2025), sales rose by 0.8% in the Food sector; however, they fell by 1.1% in the Other Products Sector.



In July 2025, sales in large stores and food chains increased in year-on-year terms by 1.2% in Bizkaia. However, in Álava and Gipuzkoa sales were down by 0.9% and 0.6%, respectively.

In month-on-month terms, sales rose by 0.6% in Bizkaia and fell by 0.3% in Álava and 0.4% in Gipuzkoa.

In the cumulative total for the first seven months of the year, sales in large stores and food chains increased by 0.8%, reaching 1.5% in the case of Bizkaia compared to the same cumulative period of 2024. In Álava, however, there was decrease of 0.2% and in Gipuzkoa sales were down 0.1%.

Lastly, the number of people employed in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country rose by 1.4% compared to July 2024. In month-on-month terms, the index of employed people recorded a rise of 0.8%. The cumulative total for the year until July registered an increase of 1.7%.

Year-on-year variations are calculated using the series corrected for calendar effects, and month-on-month variations are calculated using the deseasonalised series.
