OTHER MARKET SERVICES INDEX. I/2025
Sales in the Market Services sector in the Basque Country rose by 4.0% in the first quarter of 2025
Compared to the previous quarter, sales increased by 0.9%
Sales in the Other market services sector in the Basque Country rose by 4.0% in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same quarter of the previous year. All at constant prices and once calendar effects had been eliminated, according to Eustat data. This sector includes the services offered by the Transport, Hospitality, Information & Communications and Corporate Services Activities sectors.
Compared to the previous quarter, sales were up 0.9% in the first quarter of 2025, at constant prices and once corrected for seasonal effects.
Within Other market Services, the year-on-year evolution of sales increased by 9.7% in the Transport and storage sector, 3.1% in the Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities sector and 2.3% in the Information and Communications sector. In contrast, sales were down 0.1% in the Hospitality sector and 0.8% in the Administrative Activities & Auxiliary Services sector.
Compared to the final quarter of 2024, there was a quarter-on-quarter rise in sales of 3.6% in Professional, Scientific and Technical activities, 1.6% in Information & Communications and 0.1% in Administrative Activities & Auxiliary Services. However, in Hospitality, sales were down 1.3% in quarter-on-quarter terms.

By province, the performance of sales in the first quarter of the year was positive in both year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter terms. Growth in relation to the first quarter of 2024 stood at 5.7% in Álava, 4.3% in Gipuzkoa and 3.4% in Bizkaia. In relation to the previous quarter, the increase in sales was 2.0% in Gipuzkoa, 0.8% in Álava and 0.4% in Bizkaia.
The index of people employed in the Other Market Services sector in the Basque Country rose by 0.2% compared to the first quarter of 2024. However, compared to the final quarter of 2024 employment fell by 0.1%.

Year-on-year variations are calculated using the series corrected for calendar effects, and the quarter-on-quarter variations are calculated using the deseasonalised series.
