LARGE STORES AND FOOD CHAINS TRADE INDEX. FEBRUARY 2025
Sales in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country were down 2.0% in February 2025
Compared to the previous month, sales increased by 0.3%
Sales in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country were down by 2.0% compared to the same month of the previous year, at constant prices once corrected for calendar effects. Compared to the previous month (January 2025), sales at constant prices, and once corrected for seasonal effects, rose by 0.3%.
In year-on-year terms (February 2025 compared to February 2024), the evolution of sales at constant prices was negative in both Food, down 2.7% and Other Products, with a 0.6% decrease.
In month-on-month terms, sales increased by 1.0% in the Other Products sector. In contrast, sales in the Food sector were down 0.1% compared to the previous month.

In February 2025, sales in large stores and food chains decreased in year-on-year terms in all three provinces: by 3.5% in Gipuzkoa, 3.2% in Álava and 0.9% in Bizkaia.
However, in month-on-month terms, in Álava sales remained constant, while in Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa, they were up 0.4% and 0.2%, respectively.
Lastly, the number of people employed by large stores and food chains in the Basque Country rose by 1.4% in comparison with February 2024. In month-on-month terms, the index recorded a rise of 0.3%.

Year-on-year variations are calculated using the series corrected for calendar effects, and month-on-month variations are calculated using the deseasonalised series.
