OTHER MARKET SERVICES INDEX. IV/2024
Sales in the Market Services sector in the Basque Country rose by 1.8% in 2024 as a whole
In the final quarter of 2024, sales were up 2.7% on those observed in the same quarter of the previous year
In 2024 as a whole, sales in the Other Market Services sector increased by 1.8% compared to 2023, at constant prices and once corrected for calendar effects, according to Eustat data. This sector includes the services offered by the following sectors: Transport and Storage; Hospitality; Information and Communications; Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities; and Administrative Activities and Auxiliary Services.
Evolution for the year as a whole was positive in all sectors: there was growth of 2.7% in Hospitality, 2.3% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities, 1.5% in Transport and Storage, 1.1% in Information and Communications, and, lastly, 0.9% in Administrative Activities and Auxiliary Services.
Sales in the Other Market Services sector were up in all three provinces. The rise in sales stood at 2.1% in both Álava and Bizkaia, and 1.0% in Gipuzkoa.
Meanwhile, the index of people employed in the sector posted a 1.1% increase during 2024.
In the fourth quarter of 2024, sales were up 2.7% compared to the fourth quarter of 2023. Compared to the previous quarter, and once corrected for seasonal effects, the growth in sales during the final quarter of the year was 1.7%.
Within the Other Market Services sector, the year-on-year evolution in sales was positive across the board. There was growth in sales of 4.4% in Transport and Storage, 2.5% in Hospitality, 2.3% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities and Administrative Activities and Auxiliary Services, and, lastly, 0.6% in Information and Communications.
In relation to the third quarter of 2024, there was a quarter-on-quarter rise in sales of 1.5% in Information and Communications, 1.3% in Hospitality, 1.0% in Administrative Activities and Auxiliary Services, and 0.5% in Transport and Storage. However, in Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities, sales fell by 0.1%.

By province, the performance of sales in the last quarter of the year was positive in both year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter terms. Growth in relation to the last quarter of 2023 stood at 3.4% in Bizkaia, 3.2% in Álava and 1.3% in Gipuzkoa. Similarly, compared to the third quarter, the increase in sales was 2.6% in Bizkaia, 1.9% in Álava and 0.1% in Gipuzkoa.
The index of people employed in the Other Market Services sector in the Basque Country rose by 1.1% in relation to the fourth quarter of 2023. Compared to the third quarter of 2024, there was a rise of 0.5%.
