OTHER MARKET SERVICES INDEX. III/2024
Sales in the Market Services sector in the Basque Country rose by 0.2% in the third quarter of 2024
In the cumulative yearly total, sales increased by 1.2%
Sales in the Other Market Services sector in the Basque Country rose by 0.2% in the third quarter of 2024 in relation to the same quarter of the previous year, at constant prices and once calendar effects had been eliminated, according to Eustat data. This sector includes the services offered by the Transport, Hospitality, Information & Communications and Corporate Services Activities sectors.
Sales were down 1.2% compared to the previous quarter, at constant prices and once corrected for seasonal effects.
Within the Other Market Services sector, sales performed positively in Hospitality and Administrative Activities and Auxiliary Services, with growth of 2.3% and 0.3% respectively. In Transport and Storage sales decreased by 0.1% in year-on-year terms and in Information & Communications they fell by 0.4%. In Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities sales were down 1.2% on those observed in the same quarter of the previous year.
Compared to the previous quarter, during the third quarter sales were down 2.3% in the Transport and Storage sector and 0.9% in the Administrative Activities and Auxiliary Services sector. In Hospitality, sales remained unchanged in quarter-on-quarter terms, while in Information and Communications and Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities sales were, respectively, 0.1% and 0.3% higher than the previous quarter.

By province, there were year-on-year increases in the sales index of 1.6% in Álava and 0.1% in Gipuzkoa. However, in Bizkaia the index was down 0.1% in respect of the same quarter of the previous year. As regards the quarter-on-quarter evolution, there were decreases in all three provinces: 0.2% in Álava, 0.5% in Gipuzkoa and 1.8% in Bizkaia.
In the cumulative yearly total the general sales index was up 1.2%, with positive variations in all sectors. The provinces also showed improvements in sales, with increases of 1.5% in Álava, 1.4% in Bizkaia and 0.7% in Gipuzkoa.
Lastly, the index of employed people in the Other Market Services sector in the Basque Country increased by 0.7% in year-on-year terms in the third quarter of 2024. However, compared to the second quarter of the year, the index of employed people rose by 0.2%.
