LARGE STORES AND FOOD CHAINS TRADE INDEX. SEPTEMBER 2024
Sales in large store and food chains in the Basque Country rose by 1.0% in September 2024
Compared to the previous month, August 2024, sales were up 0.4%
In September 2024, sales at large stores and food chains in the Basque Country, at constant prices, rose by 1.0% in relation to the same month of the previous year, according to Eustat data.
In relation to August 2024, sales at constant prices were up 0.4%.
Sales, at constant prices, decreased in month-on-month terms by 0.4% in the Food sector and increased by 1.9% in the Other Products sector. In year-on-year terms, September 2024 compared to September 2023, sales were down 0.9% in Food and rose by 4.7% in Other Products.

In September 2024 sales, at constant prices, in large stores and food chains increased in year-on-year terms by 0.8% in Álava and 1.9% in Bizkaia; in Gipuzkoa they were down 0.5%.
In relation to the previous month, August 2024, there was an upturn in sales of 0.7% in Bizkaia and 0.3% in Álava. However, in Gipuzkoa sales were down 0.1%.
The number of people employed in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country increased by 0.7% in relation to September 2023. In month-on-month terms, the index registered a drop of 0.6%.
In the cumulative period of the first nine months of 2024, sales registered no variation in the Basque County as a whole. By provinces, in Gipuzkoa sales were up 0.3%, while in both Bizkaia and Álava they were down 0.2%.
In Food, cumulative sales in the year to date registered a rise of 0.4% while in Other products the cumulative variation was down 0.8%.

Year-on-year variations are calculated using the series corrected for calendar effects, and month-on-month variations are calculated using the deseasonalised series.
