Press Release 09/11/2022
INDICATORS OF THE 2030 AGENDA FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT. 2022
The number of bank branches reduced by almost half over the last decade in the Basque Country
Practically all households in the Basque Country had 4G mobile coverage.
Eustat remains committed to continuously expanding and disaggregating the set of statistical indicators that enable the achievement of the 169 targets and 17 Sustainable Development Goals included in the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Basque Country to be quantified.
On this occasion a total of 20 new statistical indicators were included on Eustat’s recently improved platform for the dissemination of indicators of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Basque Country. All of them have been defined following a methodology harmonised across the Autonomous Regions, thus guaranteeing their full and direct comparability.
Among the indicators included on the Eustat platform that serve to complete United Nations goals, targets and indicators now reported in the Basque Country, is Number of commercial bank branches for every 100,00 inhabitants aged 15 and over. Over the last eleven years there has been a significant reduction in the number of branches, going from 103.15 branches for every 100,000 inhabitants in 2010 to 56.93 in 2021.
Another of the new indicators is the proportion of households with 4G mobile network coverage. In this case, there has been an increase in coverage from 2014 to 2019, the year in which 4G coverage reached practically 100% of households both in the Basque Country and in the three provinces.
Eustat continues to work on developing the platform for the dissemination of indicators of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Basque Country, in order to offer both disaggregated statistical indicators already published and to include new ones that provide information on targets not covered to date. The following graph represents the number of indicators currently defined for the Basque Country in each one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The inclusion of new indicators of those Sustainable Development Goals with the least information is a priority for Eustat, as is the geographical disaggregation of the indicators available at the Basque Country level. Obtaining indicators at municipal level, following a harmonised methodology and utilising quality information sources, is, in fact, Eustat’s greatest challenge at this time.
