CONSTRUCTION INDEX. IV/2022
Activity in the Construction sector in the Basque Country increased by 16.1% in the fourth quarter of 2022
In the cumulative total for 2022, growth was 11.1% in respect of the previous year, Civil Works standing out with growth of almost 20%.
In current prices, activity in the Construction sector in the Basque Country in the fourth quarter of 2022 was 16.1% higher than that in the same quarter of the previous year, according to Eustat data. Compared to the previous quarter, and once any seasonal effects had been eliminated, activity increased by 3.6% in current prices.
The year-on-year upturn in this quarter is explained both by the performance of the Building sub-sector, which was up 14.4% in year-on-year terms, and, above all, that of Civil Works, which rose by 26.6% in this fourth quarter in relation to the same quarter of the previous year.
Comparing activity of the sector in this fourth of 2022 with that of the previous quarter, once corrected for seasonal effects, the index increased by 3.6% in nominal terms or current prices. Activity in the Building sector showed a positive quarter-on-quarter evolution of 3.2%, and in the Civil Works sector activity was up 5.8%.

Eustat. Construction index
The index of employed people, following a 0.2% decrease in relation to the third quarter of 2022, stood 0.3% below that observed in the fourth quarter of 2021.
Balance for 2022
In 2022 as a whole, activity in the sector showed an increase of 11.1% in relation to 2021. In the case of Building, cumulative growth for the year stood at 9.8% and in that of Civil Works it was 19.8%.
The cumulative total of employed people during 2022 was 1.3% higher than in the previous year.
