Sales in the Trade sector in the Basque Country were down 0.4% in the third quarter of 2022
In respect of the second quarter of the year, sales in this sector fell by 1.4%
In the third quarter of 2022, sales in the Trade sector, which encompasses Wholesale Trade, Retail Trade, and Sale and Repair of Motor Vehicles , were down 0.4% in year-on-year terms, at constant prices and once corrected for calendar effects, according to Eustat data.
Compared to the previous quarter and once corrected for seasonal effects, sales fell by 1.4% in the third quarter of 2022.
Within Trade, the year-on-year evolution of sales varied across the branches included in this sector. Thus, in Retail Trade, sales increased by 0.9%, while sales in Wholesale Trade Sales remained stable (0.0%). In contrast, sales in the branch of Sales and Repair of Motor Vehicles fell by 8.7% in relation to the third quarter of 2021.
Compared to the previous quarter, sales were down in Wholesale Trade and Sales and Repair of Motor Vehicles, by 0.9% and 0.1%, respectively. However, in the Retail Trade branch, sales remained stable (0.0%) in quarter-on-quarter terms.

By province, in the Trade sector as a whole, in Bizkaia sales increased by 0.6% in year-on-year terms at constant prices in the third quarter of the year, whilst in Álava and Gipuzkoa they fell by 1.5% and 1.2%, respectively.
Compared to the second quarter of 2022, sales were down in all three provinces. In effect, the quarter-on-quarter drop was 2.0% in Álava, 1.6% in Bizkaia and 0.8% in Gipuzkoa.
The index of people employed in the Trade sector in the Basque Country rose by 0.9% in the third quarter of 2022 in relation to the third quarter of 2021. Compared to the second quarter of the year, employment was up 0.5%.
