SERVICE SECTOR INDEX. OTHER MARKET SERVICES. III/2022
Sales in the Market Services sector in the Basque Country rose by 11.8% in the third quarter of 2022
This growth was led by the Hospitality (19.5%) and Transport & Storage (17.6%) sectors
Sales in the Other Market Services sector in the Basque Country rose by 11.8% in the third quarter of 2022 in relation to the same quarter of the previous year, at constant prices and once calendar effects had been eliminated, according to Eustat data. This sector includes the services offered by the sectors of Hospitality, Transport & Storage, Information and Communications and Corporate Services Activities.
Compared to the previous quarter, at constant prices and once corrected for seasonal effects, sales increased by 1.0% in the third quarter of 2022.
Within the Other Market Services sector, the year-on-year recovery in real sales (at constant prices) was generalised during the third quarter of the year, with the exception of the Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities sector, where sales were down 0.6%. Compared to the third quarter of 2021, sales were up 19.5% in Hospitality; 17.6% in Transport & Storage; 10.4% in Administrative and Support Service Activities; and, finally, 6.7% in Information and Communications.
In respect of the second quarter of 2022, all sectors saw an increase in sales except the Hospitality sector, where they were down 2.9%. Thus, sales increased in quarter-on-quarter terms by 1.5% in the Transport & Storage sector; by 0.9% in Administrative and Support Services Activities; by 0.5% in Professional, Scientific and Professional Activities; and, lastly, by 0.4% in Information & Communications.

By province, in Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa there was a 11.9% year-on-year increase in the sales index, and in Álava it rose by 11.0%. Compared to the previous quarter, there were also year-on-year increases in sales in all three provinces: in Álava they rose by 2.2%, in Gipuzkoa by 1.7% and in Bizkaia by 0.3%.
The index of people employed in these services as a whole for the Basque Country fell by 0.4% in the third quarter of 2022 in year-on-year terms and by 0.1% in quarter-on-quarter terms.
