SERVICE SECTOR INDEX. OTHER MARKET SERVICES. II/2022
Sales in the Market Services sector in the Basque Country rose by 15.6% in the second quarter of 2022
This growth was led by the Hospitality sector, with a rise of 40.3% and Transport & Storage, up 21.8%
Sales in the Other Market Services sector in the Basque Country rose by 15.6% in the second quarter of 2022 in relation to the same quarter of the previous year, at constant prices and once calendar effects had been eliminated, according to Eustat data. This sector includes the services offered by the sectors of Hospitality, Transport & Storage, Information & Communications and Corporate Services Activities.
Compared to the previous quarter, at constant prices and once corrected for seasonal effects, sales increased by 4.7% in the second quarter of 2022.
In the Other Market Services sector, the year-on-year recovery in real sales (at constant prices) was generalised throughout the second quarter of the year, with the exception of the Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities sector, down 3.6%. Compared to the second quarter of 2021, sales were up 40.3% in Hospitality, 21.8% in Transport & Storage, 13.6% in Administrative and support service activities and, finally, 7.6% in Information and Communications.
In respect of the first quarter of 2022, an advance in sales was estimated in all sectors except in Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities, where sales saw a decrease of 0.6%. Thus, Transport & Storage saw a 7.2% upturn in sales in the second quarter of 2022 compared to the previous quarter; in Hospitality sales were up 6.6%; in Administrative Activities & Auxiliary Services sales increased by 3.3%; and Information & Communications saw a rise of 2.1%.

By province, in Bizkaia there was a 17.2% year-on-year increase in the sales index, in Álava it was up 14.8% and, finally, in Gipuzkoa it rose by 13.0%. As regards the previous quarter, Gipuzkoa saw a quarter-on-quarter growth of 5.3%, Bizkaia of 5.1% and, finally, 1.4% in Álava.
The index of people employed in these services as a whole for the Basque Country fell by 0.2% in the second quarter of 2022, both in year-on-year terms and quarter-on-quarter terms.
