SERVICE SECTOR INDEX. OTHER MARKET SERVICES. I/2022
Sales in the Market Services sector in the Basque Country rose by 13.6% in the first quarter of 2022
There was growth in all services, but of particular note were Hospitality (37.8%) and Transport (17.4%), while technical services saw hardly any change (0.1%)
Sales in the Other Market Services sector in the Basque Country rose by 13.6% in the first quarter of 2022 in relation to the same quarter of the previous year, at constant prices and once calendar effects had been eliminated, according to Eustat data. This sector includes the services offered by the sectors of Hospitality, Transport & Storage, Information & Communications and Corporate Services Activities.
Compared to the previous quarter, at constant prices and once corrected for seasonal effects, sales increased by 1.6% in the first quarter of 2022.
Within the Other Market Services sector, the year-on-year recovery in real sales (at constant prices) was generalised, although to different degrees. In effect, growth stood at 37.8% in Hospitality; at 17.4% in Transport and Storage; at 10.0% in Administrative Activities and Auxiliary Services; at 5.0% in Information & Communications; and, finally, sales in Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities increased by 0.1% in relation to the same quarter of the previous year.
In respect of the fourth quarter of 2021, an advance in sales was estimated in all sectors except in Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities, where sales were down 0.3%. Thus, Hospitality saw a 4.0% upturn in sales in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the previous quarter; in Transport & Storage sales were up 2.1%; in Administrative Activities & Auxiliary Services sales increased by 1.7%; and Information & Communications saw a rise of 0.5%

By province, in Álava there was a 15.7% year-on-year increase in the sales index, in Bizkaia it was up 14.3% and, finally, in Gipuzkoa it rose by 11.1%.
The index of people employed in Services as a whole for the Basque Country increased by 0.5% in the year-on-year period. However, in relation to the previous quarter there was a decrease of 0.2%.
