Activity in the Construction sector in the Basque Country grew by 4.1% in the third quarter of 2021
The Building sub-sector increased by 3.9% and the Civil Works sub-sector rose by 5.1%
Construction activity in the Basque Country registered, in nominal terms, a year-on-year upturn of 4.1% in the third quarter of 2021, once corrected for calendar effects, according to Eustat data.
The year-on-year increase in the Construction sector this quarter is explained by both the performance of Civil Works, which rose by 5.1%, and that of Building, which was up 3.9% in relation to the third quarter of 2020.
In the year-to-date, the sector posted a 5.9% increase in its activity in relation to the same cumulative period of 2020. The annual cumulative total grew by 6.3% in the case of Building and by 3.5% in that of Civil Works.
Comparing the activity of the sector in this third quarter of 2021 with that of the previous quarter, once corrected for seasonal effects, revealed an increase of 1.3%. Building posted a positive quarter-on-quarter evolution of 0.1% and Civil Works rose in relation to the previous quarter by 9.4%.
Finally, and in deseasonalised terms, the number of people employed in the construction sector in the third quarter of 2021 was down 0.3% in respect of the second quarter of 2021.

Included as persons employed considered in this and other short-term indices, are those covered by an ERTE (Temporary Labour Force Adjustment Plan), following the definition of persons employed indicated by the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) in its manual Methodology of Short Term Business Statistics.
The models used in the correction of calendar effects and deseasonalisation of the series include the effect of COVID-19 on the variables studied, following the recommendations of the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) in its methodological note Guidance on Time Series Treatment in the context of the COVID-19 crisis.
Coverage of the Construction Index for the third quarter of 2021 was 93.7%. Eustat would like to thank all establishments that participated in this survey for their effort.
